Programmkino “die kurbel” - Vom Winde verweht?
After almost 77 years West-Berlin cinema “die kurbel” is about to be closed on December 21st showing “Gone with the Wind”.
Please help us to keep “die kurbel” open!
Established in 1934 “die kurbel” (“crank” [tech.!]) became one of the most popular cinemas in former West-Berlin after World War II: for instance “Gone with the Wind” had been premiered in Germany at the “kurbel” in 1953 and has been showing there for more than 28 consecutive months. Back then the cinema was run by art house legend Werner Jonigkeit (d. 2009) until 1973. Having been a sex kino for a while since then it has later tied up to its more glory days by showing English language original version movies in the 1990s. After having been shut down twice in 2003 and 2004 it re-opened the following year.
